Nightlife 01

Monday, September 26th, 2005

I went out Saturday night. There was a going away party for one of the teachers at my company who has been teaching in Taiwan for 8 years. He is from Texas and his name is Ben too. He reminds me of my friend Peter Mina the way he talks. We went to a pizza restaurant and then went to a pub/club that was really crowded. There were a lot of people dancing. Around 1ish my friends left, I hung around outside because I was not ready to go home. There was a food stand (actually, the back of a woman’s scooter was the stand) outside the place, she sells Chinese sausage which is really tasty and really not good for you. 30NT is the regular price for two sausages. You can play a game with her for 50NT, if you lose you get nothing, if you win you get 4 sausages. Roll 4 dice and see who has the high roll, if you roll doubles, those dice do not count. I rolled two sixes and lost! I saw some guy win before, oh well, next time. I met this girl and guy and chatted and hung out with them until late. We ate ramen noodles and drank some beer outside the 7-11. Staying up so late I did not feel so well the next day, but it was fun.

Sunday I drank a lot of water. Mei and I rode the bicycle around town. I love the weekend.

“Starting many things at once can be a very difficult task at first.”

I know life is tough and it is not always easy, I know many people work in jobs they do not like. Me, I just have different standards. It is not my plan to work in a job I dislike for many years of my life. I want to work and excel because I do not mind working at my job. This may be hard to find but I will not settle anytime in the near future.

People find different kind of work challenging, some are good at building things with their hands, some are good at talking with people all day and some people want to work by themselves. I am trying to find out what fits me, all I know right now is that teaching children takes a lot of energy. If you know me, you probably know I prefer not to talk all day long.

I prepared my quizzes on the computer last night. Tonight I graded some quizzes at a pub before going home. I like to see how well my students do and compare, that is fun for me. I have a teacher-parent meeting on Thursday and Friday. Ah, 我是老師.

These past two weeks teaching English to children in Taiwan have been really challenging. Before coming to Taiwan, I thought I wanted a challenge, I never thought it would be like this. I think it is the hardest work I have ever done.
