Present and Future
Listening to Polish hip hop and about to begin my search for an apartment. In the hostel you meet people from all over and hear some great stories. Also, a good place to find out what’s happening. I will have to come back and visit sometimes because I need a quiet place to rest my head at night. Until then and after teaching a while will I say I’m settled here in Taipei, things are looking up.
I will teach elementary grade students and work 18.5 hours a week. 1st and 2nd graders only have half a day of Chinese school and most parents work full-time so the kids are sent to English school, whether or not they want to. I think the students must study very hard here and in China, more studious than I was in grade school and high school. M-F from 1:30-4pm and M,W,F from 4:30-6:30pm, not a bad schedule, I can study in the morning and have my nights free to plan lessons and have some adventures.
I had two interviews, a 2 hour test and taught a 40 minute class. Big Byte, the school I got a job with, was thorough in it’s interview process to say the least. Which is good, there are many foreigners here looking for English teaching jobs. I wanted to work for a reputable school and one that has been around for a while, had some structure. I found it. I think I can find a good work/life balance. Next summer I am free, if in April I enjoy teaching and can plan ahead and I come back the following September. It’s a while a way, we’ll see.

Congratulations for your new job. On the other hand, it is a bad news for us since you are not going to come back soon.

Hello
Nice to meet you. Hope you can enjoy your teaching and life in Taiwan.
If you get lost in Taipei, you can call me for help. Haha…
