台风来了 (Typhoon Coming)

Tuesday, August 30th, 2005

Typhoon coming tomorrow. Possible surf Saturday. I might take a train to the east coast on Saturday. Here’s the 36-hour wave prediction. 10 foot waves hitting the coast tomorrow, Saturday they should clean up won’t be as big. Don’t worry Mom, I’ll be safe. 别担心妈妈,我很安全.

Training is going well. Hope tomorrow’s isn’t cancelled. Thursday is the first day of class. I met some students today and ate lunch at the school, met the staff. Should be enjoyable.

I spoke wrong, 30ft waves! (1m=3ft)

Today my friend May drove me all over the place, 好玩. This morning, we checked out an apartment. The search is going slowly, will do more tomorrow. After lunch we drove 40 minutes southwest to Taoyaun, where May’s aunt lives. My friend A-Hui came with, we might be roommates if we can find a place.

Last night I joined May and her family for dinner in Keelung, the port harbor Northeast of Taipei. We went to a restaurant famous for seafood, it was good. Her family is nice. After dinner we went to her uncle’s office to play mahjong. I know how to play! Not so well though.

May has been really helpful these days, thanks May. So, she rented a car to go to the dinner and had to return it today. After Taoyuan she had lots of gas to use up so we went to Yang Ming Shan. The sun was setting as we were heading up the mountain. Here you can see the city lit up at night. Next time I hope to spend more time there.

Oh yea, I drove a scooter on the streets of Taipei, much fun!

Motorbikes

There are 3 motorbikes in this picture, can you guess the one I want to ride? If you said the 150cc Honda sportbike you guessed right. The scooter next to it, they rule the streets. The other one is an older bike maybe 125cc. I have to save some money, maybe a birthday gift for myself. I still want a scooter or bicycle for convenience and ride the other for fun around town and exploring the countryside. :O)

Mountain to Climb

Frustration #1 when living in a new country stems from not being able to speak the language. Must overcome this mountain of a task, or foothill, whichever it is. There are other frustrations of course but we won’t go there.
